I’ve been busy compiling a indepth article on moon-sighting controversies in the Islamic world, and that’s why the belated Eid wishes post. Hope you’ve had a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan and may Allah accept the good deeds we have done during this month!
Eid is being celebrated through out the world on at least three different days (more on that of course, as soon as the Desicritics article is published, at the moment it is in editorial que) so I’m not quite sure in which tense to use to wish you in!
But which ever day you celebrated Eid on, hope it was a joyous and blessed occassion. Here’s a few Eid related links that caught my eye:
Regarding The Spirit of Eid:
Eid 101 – The dos and don’ts of Eid, a flash presentation by Ahmed Alashareef (link via a i R e V A j).
The Fiqh of Eid by Shaykh Ashraf Ali Al-Thanawi and The Significance of Eid-ul-Fitr via the Sunni Path Question and Answer section.
Eid in Pakistan:
The Eid moon as seen in Islamabad, Pakistan by A for [pine]apple; bet Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman -chairman of the Pakistan Ruyat-e-Hilal (Moon Sighting) Committee- will be very pleased to see that!
The Pakistani Spectator wishes its readers Eid Mubarak while reminding us to remember those less fortunate than us in these times of festivitiy and celebration. In the same vein, Adnan Siddiqui does a moving post on the real spirit of Eid.
In another post, Adnan shares with us the news of a unique Eid gift: a pack of condoms! From the Ministry of Population to the Members of Parliment, with love. A PPP MNA apparently termed the move ‘humiliating’! I think not, hillarious? Yes certainly.
Elsewhere in the Pakistani blogosphere, Owais Mughal comes up with a delicious post on “4 Delightlfully Tasty Pakistani Dishes For Eid” and Aamar Yasir gives us a beautiful pictorial representation of Eid festivities.
Eid around the world:
Jonathan Fryer observes how Muslims in London are “having fun” at Eid while Laila Lalami tells us the Empire State Building in New York will be lit up to mark the festival . Lightenning will continue through the weekend. In Morocco, Focussing In shares with us the local Eid traditions of the African Muslim nation. Mumbai Mirror has photos from the celebrations in Dubai and China, for more photos on how Eid is celebrated across the world, check out Flickr.
That’s it from my end today, happy Eid once again! Posting may be light over the next few days.
